Collection of Samples for Bacterial Analysis- Information Sheet
All samples must be collected into a sterile container and be submitted to the laboratory within 24 hours for analysis.
Proper collection and handling of water sample is critical for meaningful results.
The laboratory cannot be responsible for inaccurate results where samples were incorrectly taken.
Procedure for sample collection:
- Wash your hands carefully. Bacteria are everywhere in the environment – including on your hands!
- Clean and sterilize the sample outlet (by pouring over a liberal quantity of boiling water or using a domestic cleaner)
- Run the cold water for at least two minutes. Reduce the flow of water before taking the sample to prevent splashing.
- Open the lid of the sterile container, fill the bottle quickly leaving a little headspace and immediately close the lid tightly.
- Do not touch the inside of the container at any time.
- Replace the container back into the box and express post to the laboratory.
